English cucumbers are often referred to as seedless and while they do have some seeds, these are much smaller and less prominent than other varieties. The seeds in a cucumber make them taste bitter, so for this reason the 'seedless' English cucumber is popular. They are also not generally waxed, therefore not required to be peeled and have been bred to be more easily digested than other varieties.
